AVELEDA is a green Batavia that can be grown for both whole head and, in particular, process leaf (sandwich leaf). AVELEDA complements both Serrana (which is darker in colour) and Melina (which has a quite different leaf shape) by being more consistent as a year round variety as it is more forgiving in both hot and cold extremes. As a result, AVELEDA has become popular in overseas markets with processors who are looking for a consistent product. Like most Batavia types, AVELEDA shows strong tolerance to fungal rots, such as botrytis, in warm, wet conditions and sclerotinia year round.
