YOUNG VEGETABLE GROWER 2017

Congratulations to Scott Wilcox from Pukekohe who was crowned New Zealand Young Vegetable Grower 2017 at the national competition held in Pukekohe on Thursday 11th May. Scott, (23), works at AS Wilcox & Sons as an assistant in the Carrot Growing Program. Scott also won the prize for the evening’s best speech.

Christopher Cowie, (26), from T&G covered crops in Reporoa, was placed runner-up and Shaun Reynolds, (29), from T A Reynolds in Pukekohe, finished third and won the prize for the best in practical.

We would also like to congratulate everyone who entered the day-long competition, we saw competitors battle it out in a series of practical and theoretical challenges designed to test the skills needed to run a successful vegetable growing business.

Scott will go on to compete in the annual Young Grower of the Year competition, which is to be held on the 16th of August in Christchurch.
